Granite is a very hard, granular, crystalline, intrusive igneous rock consisting mainly of quartz, mica, and feldspar and often used as a building. These minerals occur in different proportions, giving each granite its own color, texture and structural characteristics. Granite is commonly used as a building material for counter tops and floors. It is also used as curling stones, grave stones, and planes of reference for contractors.
